Before you start to read the tutorial and create fancy search modules, you need to know some basic information about the new version, what you can read here: Summary of the new version of the Live Search.
If you have read that, you can try these search for example with "building" keyword. Check how nice is it during working!

First Steps

Let's run through quickly what features can be found in this search module:

• Using the Minimal Theme
• Show results from K2 items
• Increasing width of the search module when clicking on it
• Show the TOP 20 skyscrapers of the Big Apple

After this overview, go to your administrator area, click on the Extensions/Module manager, press new button, and select the Universal Ajax Live Search. To use the power of the Minimal Theme you need to set up another module in the position where you would like to show the result tiles. This module called AJAX Live Search results, and also can be found in the modules list, usually in the first place. There is no any special options of it, just show the Live Search where to put the results. So simple, isn't it. Note that we have used the latest Joomla 3, so the screenshots can be different, if you are using another Joomla version.

Module Details

In this part you can see the basic parameters of the module. Just set-up them as usual, nothing special, just same as the others.

Further Settings

If you are a former user of Live Search these parameters can be familiar, but don't worry if you see them for the first time, everything is very clear. I only higlight the Search only in parameter. Previously I installed the improved search plugin for K2, what is available free from Offlajn.com, or simply go the component part of the Live Search, and download the suitable version from that table. Check the parameters on the image below:

Basic Settings of Live Search

Layout Options

In this part, you can set some styling options. The width of the search box, and result area, and whether the results width will be dynamic or not. Dynamic width means, that if the search box size change, the results will follow that, and always will be equals with the search box.

Advanced Parameters

In this section, you can set that where the Live Search load the dojo framework, from google server, or locally. Local loading can be useful, if your server has not allowed to load content from external sites, all other case the google server is most reliable.

Theme Parameters

In the new version the Theme Manager got an individual tab in Joomla 3. We think it over, and believe that those many settings deserves more attention. So, let's check these settings in details.
The Theme is Minimal, of course. You can also select the Theme skin, and the font style, too. These are predefined fancy skins, what can make your life easier.

Search Box Settings

Here you can define settings related to the search box. Fonts, colors, images, etc...

Control Panel Settings

Control panel settings is a new part, what is only available in Minimal Theme. These settings according to the bar, what appears when you enter a keyword to the search box, and the result-cards shown. The next, previous, close and the pages button is in this panel.

Result Cards Settings

These settings is for the previously mentioned result-cards. We have worked hard on make the theme parameters more clear, while keep those many options.

All of the current settings are available, when you press on the Configure button on the left top. You can also change these options, and save it like you are in the module manager. Check it, customize the settings, and let's explore your talent!
